3D Printing By The Bay: Join Novedge in San Francisco

Event Description
By now we all have heard of 3D printing technology and the Makers movement. But what is myth and what is reality? How is 3D printing already changing the way we create, build, exchange information and discover new things? What is the impact 3D printing is having on manufacturing? And where is this technology heading?
On October 10th, we will hear from Tatjana Dzambazova who works with museums and archaeological sites around the world to help share their discoveries with the help of 3D technology, Saul Griffith, the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Genius Grant for his technology work, Espen Sivertsen, CEO and Co Founder of Type A Machines, and Mark Hatch, the Co Founder of the Tech Shop, whose book, The Maker Movement Manifesto: Rules for Innovation in the New World of Crafters, Hackers, and Tinkerers, will be released this month.
We will also see a 3D printer in action, thanks to the team behind Type A Machines, who is headquartered at the Tech Shop in San Francisco and laser cuts each of its individual printers using only local materials and labor. And there will be a chance to take a tour of the TechShop for the first guests to arrive.

Full Bios:
Tatjana Dzambazova, Technology Whisperer and Product Manager at Autodesk, is a trained architect with 12 years of experience in architecture and design in Vienna and London. Always fascinated by the impact that technology has on our lives, she decided to continue her career in the digital design technology world, where, working for Autodesk for the last 13 years , she has been passionately whispering and teaching technology, authoring books and leading product development of exciting new digital design tools. An avid believer that we are all born with a sense for creativity and innovation and the need to express it, Tatjana focuses her energy on helping make and promote powerful design technologies accessible to wide range of audiences as well educate the world about the cultural and sociological changes that technological developments can bring.
Saul Griffith is the Founder / Principal Scientist at Other Lab, where he focuses his work on engineering solutions for energy production and energy efficiency. He has multiple degrees in materials science and mechanical engineering and completed his PhD in Programmable Assembly and Self Replicating machines at MIT. He is founder or co-founder of numerous companies, including Optiopia, Squid Labs, Potenco, Instructables, Howtoons and Makani Power. Saul has been awarded numerous awards for invention and was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2007. In 2011 Saul was named a World Economic Forum ‘Young Global Leader’. Saul holds multiple patents and patents pending in textiles, optics, nanotechnology, robotics, energy production, manufacturing and smart geometry. Saul co-authors ‘Howtoons’ with Nick and Ingrid Dragotta – a children’s comic book series about building your own science and engineering gadgets. Saul is a technical adviser to Make magazine and Popular Mechanics, and sits on various advisory boards including Duke Energy and the San Francisco 100% Renewable Energy Taskforce. He rarely wears shoes, is typically found knee-deep in machinery with fists full of tools, and has holes in most of his pockets.
Mark Hatch, CEO and co-founder of TechShop, is a former Green Beret, a self described revolutionary and a leader in the Maker Movement. He has held executive positions focused on innovation, disruptive technology and entrepreneurship at large and small firms including Avery Dennison, Kinko's and Health Net. The San Francisco Business Times presented Mark a “Bay Area’s Most Admired CEO Award” and Fast Company has recognized him in their “Who’s Next” column. TechShop also won the EXPY Award, given to the “experience stager of the year.” Mark has appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC, Bloomberg, CNN and Fox among others, has been quoted in numerous magazines and newspapers, and has published a number of articles. His book The Maker Movement Manifesto, will be published by McGraw-Hill in September of 2013. Mark holds an M.B.A. from the Drucker Center at the Claremont Graduate University and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California at Irvine. Through TechShop, Mark is focused on radically democratizing access to the tools of innovation by providing the lowest cost access to tools the world has ever seen. Espen Sivertsen is the CEO and co-founder of Type A Machines, a San Francisco based 3D printer manufacturer. Before moving to the Bay Area, Espen developed and maintained MemeMaker.com - the first retailer in Denmark focusing on the Arduino prototyping platform. He was also Team Leader atKaosPilots, the award winning international school of Entrepreneurship based in Denmark. He was recently a speaker at TEDx Livermore on how 3D printing can empower new generations in "building great things".
Cristiano Sacchi, CEO of Novedge, has always been passionate about science, engineering and technology. In his quest to make complex technology accessible to the largest possible number of people, he co-founded Actify in 1997, a pioneering company in the field of design visualization, where he was instrumental in raising more than $7M in venture capital. Actify was followed by Novedge in 2003. At Novedge, Cristiano leads a team of dedicated professionals, going to great length to find complex design software products and making them available to design professionals in North America. Cristiano Sacchi has a Ph.D. in Information Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan and, when not at work, he can be found skiing, and sailing in the San Francisco Bay Area.
